Your data is precious
Let’s talk about how to protect and store your invaluable asset.

What is data?
Data is raw facts, numbers, symbols, etc. It lacks context on its own and needs to be deciphered. Once it has context, it becomes information. Basically, data is eggs, flour, milk, and sugar. You don’t know anything other than that. Information is when you put it together and make a cake.
How is data stored?
There are several different options when it comes to storing your data. There are both physical and off-site options.
Physical options
Remote options
How is data stored?
Let’s take a closer look at the differences among the storage options to help you decide what may be best for you.
External hard drive
An external hard drives such as HDDs or SSDs are a one time cost that can hold a lot of data. An HDD is a hard disc drive is better for long-term storage. An SSD is a solid state drive is better for supporting an operating system.
Flash drive/memory card
Flash drives have a lot of names: thumb drive, jump drive, data stick, USB stick. Despite the various names, it all refers to a small portable memory stick that plugs into your USB port. It allows a person to copy files onto it and easily transfer it to another device. A memory card is a similar concept; however it is made differently and requires a special slot or a converter.
Network Attached Storage
A NAS serves as a central storage device that automatically backups data for multiple devices.
Optical devices
CDs and DVDs would both be examples of an optical device. You will need a CD or DVD writer to create these files.
Cloud backup services
This storage is a remote option and often comes with a fee. Basically, you are storing your data on another computer off-site. If you delete files from your devices, the files will remain on your stored data.
Cloud sync/storage
This is similar to the cloud backup services and usually comes with a fee; however, it mirrors your devices. If you delete the file from your device, it will be deleted from your stored data.
